What is a Youth Sport Hub?The ultimate goal of the Youth Sport Hub is to deliver physical literacy enriched programming to students and eventually offer a pathway through the school system, extending into community and club sport.
The Sport Hub is based on the Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity framework. It offers sport programming that is inclusive, affordable, accessible and supports a more physically active lifestyle. The Sport Hub is a collaboration between Sport 4 Life Cochrane, local schools, Sport Organizations, and community partners. |
Giving all Cochrane youth
the skills to play for life.
Just like learning to read and write, all children and youth have the right to develop movement and sport skills in an affordable, inclusive and safe environment. The Sport Hub model brings sport and physical activity stakeholders together to create physical activity experiences that support all aspects of healthy child development.

“Sport Hub is an amazing program!
Our students have the opportunity to learn a variety of sports and physical activities for 1 hour a week. Coaches are passionate. So much learning for the students and myself, as a physical education teacher. Students are always looking forward to Wednesday.” - Physical Education Teacher |

Assistance for services/programming with the Cochrane Connect Card"The intention of the card is to allow low-income families to access services/recreation/programs in the community at a reduced rate. Currently, partners of the program include, COLT bus, Spray Lakes, a local hair salon, the Cochrane library, Cochrane Minor Basketball, the Arts Society and a few others. Partners determine the discount they are able to provide. The program works by families or individuals applying yearly, they come into the FCSS office, and their income/financial situation is assessed. There are two levels of eligibility for qualifying depending on income."

Pilot Project 2019/2020We hosted a successful pilot in Cochrane at École Notre-Dame Des Vallées and Holy Spirit schools in Cochrane, thanks to funding support from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. We were able to host rugby, orienteering, badminton, soccer, field hockey, basketball and ultimate frisbee.
We have at least 3 schools and several sports standing by to participate in Sport Hub programming once COVID restrictions are lifted. |
“Sport Hub helps our organization create awareness around our sport. It allow us to share our love for our sport and bring more people in."
